Shannon Harris Bio, Cover Letter and CV

Shannon filming a documentary in Sub-Saharan Africa

My name is Shannon Harris and I have experience in international, national, and local documentary film-making, wellness facilitation, sound design, mental/physical therapy, education, and music production. I created wellness programming for several Cook County universities, elementary schools, community organizations, and mental health clinics. My experiences includes: creating award winning film scores for Chicago afrofuturist author, Ytasha Womack, running a 501c3 Non-Profit in Kenya, obtaining healing art/science trademarks, and writing wellness programs/code for Hollywood’s leading wellness coaches to the stars. Additionally, I created, produced, and directed two seasons of a genre fusing audio project entitled AfriFuTrintity: Quantum Cosmic Futures featured in Carnegie Hall’s 2022 Afrofuturism Festival.  As I learn more about Malcolm X’s IAAM Study Abroad Program, I believe my past experiences and ongoing interests make me a strong candidate for acceptance and participation in this program.

My work in education, IT, and wellness draws on 33 years of experience in IT, and over two decades of global volunteerism, anthropology, ethnomusicology, philanthropy, teaching, wellness programming, performing, composing, inventing, and entrepreneurship. My current endeavors are many including three prominent ones 1) DCASE winner of the Arts and Community Health Pilot Program, 2) curating technological mindfulness healing arts immersive experiences locally/globally, and 3) partnering with Carnegie Hall’s first Afrofuturism Festival to create an immersive online event airing on March 19, 2022.  My collective works and workshops have taken me across the globe to teach and/or perform in Brazil, India, and other countries.
